Komugiko glompyhuggling snarkybear - part of a series of frames in a little Sad Bears in Snow comic i’ve been working on…
Technically, one of the reasons Mugi wears a head scarf is because her hair color is off from her ear coloring, and it looks awkward, and she’s colored her hair a lot over the years, never happy with how it all works. Whimsical thing, really. Also, the irony of Pirogoeth’s hair being closer to the right color than her own attempts… (more petulant colorings… if you are gonna waste time and do useless things, might as well get some useless artwork out of it i guess)
Finished the T-shirt design for this Youmacon’s 2012 t-shirt :) It’s two color (white and yellow ink on a black-t-shirt) and actually didn’t come out too bad. The tricky thing with getting my artwork prepped for silkscreen printing is the vectoring. It actually didn’t come out too bad. The trick is you have to think about the medium you are actually working in - Plastisol ink. I’m kinda spoiled because with the Direct to Garment Printing that i do i don’t have to worry about color separations or anything, since it is essentially just a big inkjet printer that prints directly on the shirt :P Speaking of color, i’m doing a quick color of the ‘pencil’ (non-vectored) version of the drawing and i’ll bring along some fine art prints of it for the show (not done yet, needs some more shading):

Overall i’m pretty happy with how this came out - not too bad for a rush job. Of course, i didn’t have time to do this, but since Youmacon got left in a lurch I’m glad i was able to do this for them. Hopefully everyone likes it, so be sure to pick up one of the shirts if you are gonna be at Youmacon this year :)
Like i said, i’m a guest at the show this year, i’m doing a couple of panels, including a panel that has nothing to do with Megatokyo, on Madoka Magica of all things I also have a panel on the agonies of the creative process and whatnot, we’ll see how that goes :P Should be a fun show, be sure to stop by my table, Youmacon is in Cobo Hall for the first time this year, so plenty of room for what has grown to be a large and awesome anime con right here in Michigan :)
The Youmacon tshirt isnt going to be full color or anything, and it will have all four characters on it, but since Moemi is the best part of it so far, this quickcolor cropped version is just kinda fun… i have to hop on finishing this up tonight, i’ll be working on that live in a little while here. Gotta draw Gundam and Tuxedo Mask cosplay… uguu…
I’ll be a guest at Youmacon in Detroit next weekend (November 1-4) - they are moving into Cobo hall this year, so it should be quite interesting… they also asked me to do a t-shirt design for this years show, incorporating some of their mascots. Yes, i got this assignment a week before the show, meaning i had to come up with something instantly, but i’m happy to help them out :) I also somehow managed to pull together a decent idea fairly quickly, and after some time working it over this evening, this is where i’m at. Theme for the show is ‘old school anime’ and, well, cant get more old school than Lum :P the fact that Moemi already had horns was the genesis of the idea, then puting Tsumo in a Gundam cosplay painting her horns… why not :P It is also a play on model making and painting… anyways, its late, i’ll post this here for your amusement, and finish it up tomorrow
Screencap of a drawing i’m working on that is a bit of a reprise and ‘further along the spiral’ drawing of 'broken’ miho (why am i doing this? himitsu-desu :P) It’s actually really hard to come up with a pose sometimes, a snapshot of movement, a static moment… I’m not really one for doing poses just because they look good, i sort of like there to be reasons why a character is doing what they are doing. In the case of Miho, especially in this metaphorically loaded kind of image, trying to get to something profound isn’t easy at all.
I’m not there quite yet with this drawing, but it feels like it’s somewhere along that path - these kinds of drawings are as much about discovery of something as they are about making a visually interesting image. The tentative titling of this will be something along the lines of “failed:saved” exploring the idea being more (or less?) broken as things wear on her and things become more complicated. the straps and harness parts (my research into climbing harnesses for the 'scatterings’ story coming in handy) was not actually something i planned. Also, the EGL/Perkigoth sort of wardrobe Miho i usually put Miho in for these just seems too static and unchanged for what i’m trying to get at (whatever that is).
Anyways, it’s interesting enough, and needs a lot of fixing, but a good step along the path for the next round of fiddling. I might turn back to it tomorrow and not see anything and have to start with a different idea. It’s all part of the process (a very flawed process, but even cows with paintbrushes can make interesting images sometimes)
A random drawing sketch i did based on a long standing request from a friend for some ‘unmod’ artwork, it’s a rather rough drawing based around a Sig SP2022 (which would be the analogue of Piroko’s main carry - her hidden under-wing backup being a Sig P290 - please excuse all inadequacies of the gun itself - pencil on paper leaves less room to fiddle with accuracy ^^;;) It came out oddly dynamic, so here’s one sketch that doesn’t end up in the recycle pile :)

![More progress on the Broken:Miho progression sketch, fail[ed]:save[d], not looking too bad. Not happy with how she interacts with the ground, also i plan to have her in boots … or that was the original plan. Still thinking about how that will work.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbdicrNLpH1qznjgao1_1280.jpg)
